Assistant Medical Director

Job Description

The Assistant Medical Director is responsible for assisting the agency team in the understanding and application of scientific/clinical account data within his/her assigned therapeutic area(s). He/she will prepare scientific and strategic analyses of data, research and disseminate brand/category backgrounders, create slides and other written documents that clearly convey scientific information, attend and prepare reports for major medical meetings. Assistant Medical Director’s responsibility is to use his/her scientific knowledge, writing skills, and strategic thinking to enhance the Agency’s offerings to the client.


Primary Job Responsibilities


Maintain and update knowledge and files for all preclinical and clinical scientific information as well as competitive data for assigned account(s)
Prepare (write and reference) scientific and strategic analyses of data for optimal application in promotional media; maintain up-to-date manuscript and reference files
Work closely with account and copy teams to develop strongest story and support for the brand
Work closely with art to visually explain scientific concepts
Assist in educating team members, including new employees, about current scientific data
Develop written primers or slides to assist other team members in getting up to speed with the medical/scientific aspects of the brand and product category
Liaise with client marketing, medical and regulatory departments and develop relationships with client physicians and key opinion leaders
Attend and prepare reports for major medical meetings
Attend client meetings and provide scientific perspective
Assist the agency team in annual strategic and tactical planning
Develop questionnaires for advisory boards, focus groups, and scientific workshops within assigned therapeutic area(s)
Attend new business presentations as assigned by manager
Performs other duties as assigned by manager

Additional Responsibilities

Assist other members of department/team as needed when workload allows



PhD, PharmD or MD degree
1 year as a medical practitioner/clinical experience or relevant work experience
Knowledge of preclinical and clinical research methods and drug approval processes
Being pro-active and able to work efficiently and effectively with a team
Medical writing portfolio or related materials demonstrating ability to clearly communicate scientific data and concepts
Good communicator on medical and industry issues
